Understanding Fire Ratings

A0, A60, H0, H60 and H120 ratings

Fire ratings such as A60 and H120 indicate the duration the insulation must withstand a particular type of fire.

Difference between "A" and "H" fire ratings
A-fire rated insulations are tested with an ISO cellulosic fire temperature curve. H-fire rated items are tested with a hydrocarbon fire curve. The hydrocarbon fire curve has a faster build-up and higher plateau temperature than the standard A-curve. The fire insulation shall maintain their function concerning fire resistance and structural integrity when exposed to a heat load characteristic for cellulosic (A-fire rating) fire or hydrocarbon (H-fire rating) fire.

“A” class fire rated insulation provides excellent protection against cellulosic fire, which involves materials predominantly existing out of cellulose (e.g. plastics, wood, paper, cotton, textiles). A60 rated doors provide protection for people and equipment against cellulosic fires up to 1 hour.

Furthermore, what do 2 hours fire rating mean?

When a building or system is said to have a 2-hour fire rating, what does that mean? It means that the system has satisfied the requirements for a 2-hour rating specified in a relevant standard test. Besides above, what is a60 insulation? APPLICATIONS. Marine A30/A60 insulation is noncombustible, thermal insulation specifically designed and manufactured for use on shipboard bulkheads and decks. It is suitable for use on ducts, mufflers and exhaust stacks.

Keeping this in view, what do fire rating numbers mean?

A fire-resistance rating typically means the duration for which a passive fire protection system can withstand a standard fire resistance test. This can be quantified simply as a measure of time, or it may entail a host of other criteria, involving other evidence of functionality or fitness for purpose.

What is a class A bulkhead?

A class bulkhead or deck. A class bulkhead or deck means a bulkhead or deck that. Is made of steel or other equivalent material; and. Prevents the flame and smoke passage for 60 minutes if subjected to the standard fire test.
